Gah this is killing me..

This mobo rev2 doesn't want to see the Samsung 120G SATA drive I am
trying to install as a Data Storage drive.

Currently runnning WinXP, AMD 3000 on this mobo. ATI AIW9700Pro and 1G
mem.

I have a WD80G on IDE1 and WD80G IDE2. On a PromiseATA100 PCI card I
have a 40G Maxtor. And on a Promise ATA66 card I have my 2 flopticals.

I moved the SATA1 ENABLE jumper to ENABLE and hooked up the drive to
the SATA connector.

When I boot the computer system, everything looks OK until I see the
SATA controller show up. It says to hit F4 to set up raid (which I
don't want to, but tried and nothing happens).. Then it continues on
and shows that it doesn't detect and drives.

the boot sequence continues but will take over 30 mins to get to a
working screen and then it's super slow..

what what what need I do next to make this silly thing work properly..
I don't want to BOOT from it, just have it as storage drive..

Any ideas?!

Have you installed silicon_v10033.zip from the Asus download page ?
Maybe you need a Windows driver. The ZIP file also contains a
PDF manual "SATARaid_Manual_Rev092.pdf". A thread on nforcershq.com
reports that 33 may BSOD on you. The Silicon Image website has a
download page, and there is a newer driver there (the rdrv file).

http://12.24.47.40/article.asp?article=10469&p=2

It is possible the RAID BIOS won't open, unless it detects
two drives ? But, when I look on nforcershq.com website, it
looks like people are still able to use one SATA drive with
the thing. My guess is, with the .inf installed for the 3112,
Windows should be able to see the one drive. Look in Disk
Management and see if it is there, after the driver is installed
and you've rebooted.

And if that doesn't do it, continue your search here:

http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/search.php
(Use search query, click "search for all terms", put terms in the
upper of the two boxes.)

Just a guess,
Paul

MANY thanks.. I'll give this a try for sure.. we've confirmed there
is nothing wrong with the drive as it's been formatted on another
machine already and it works great..

I simply can't get past the booting process on this machine though I
did once, and saw it on the drive manager.. once and then it started
to go bad =)

Could be the driver is bad as you indicated.. I believe what I have
is 4.1.5 ort something like that..

Many thanks again!

Cheers
