in one slot I have 512MB Corsair XMS 3200
I want to add a second stick of Corsair XMS 3200 but just a 256MB stick
My question is will these two work together in dual channel mode, or do I
need to get another 512MB?
thanks for any help!

For true DDR performance they should be matched modules I.e. same manufactir
part-no., howeverm the gains from running Dual Channel DDR are 3-4%. Make
sure you use slots 1,3 or 2,3

Yes, that will work in Dual Channel mode.

Thats not actually true. You can use different sizes, timings and speeds...
you'll just get the lowest common denominator. I'm not sure where people
get their information, but somebody is making it up.

Read the last paragraph on Page 7.

Ben I agree, note that I did say true DDR performance. Yes, you'll still get
dual channel with different specs but they'll run to the lowest common
denominator..

The you'll have to explain "true DDR performance", 'cos I'm not sure what
you mean.

Dual channel (on the nForce2) uses two DDR Dimms - DDR and Dual Channel are
unrelated.

Well I use two 512Mb Crucials and they are not identical, no two sticks can
be.

You must use two IDENTICAL sticks of RAM. Not close; identical.
The only things in this world that are identical are clones.
I used to use 1 256 and 1 512 in dual mode and yes, it was in dual channel
mode.

Read my reply. More to the point read the last paragraph on page 7. Stop
spreading complete rubbish - you could at least read the thread before
commenting.

As already said no two sticks are identical. If you can give evidence as to
why "IDENTICAL" sticks of RAM must be used I'll reconsider, but read the
document.
