Looking to buy one. What are your experiences with this board?

I've set up two... one for a mate, which had the weird bios-save-death
problem, and my own one which has been an entirely good experience. You'll
be pleased to know that the bios-save-death problem is being discussed here
less and less often, so I guess it was some weird problem in the production
run that seems to be sorted, there are also various ways of getting around
the problem.

As with all these things you will have people that have problems and they'll
be discussed here, but for every problem discussed here, there are probably
over ten people who are completely satisfied with their board and feel no
need to come here. The nForce drivers are pretty good now, the boards out
there for sale are all going to be Rev 2.0 (unless you find some obscure
supplier with very old stock). Most of the problems have been fixed.

I would suspect that you will be more than happy with the board, if not just
pop in here and tell us your problems, we're usually pretty good at working
out what's wrong and fixing it.

I have two. The first one I got had problems with one channel of the
on-board sound system (progressively increasing crackling and
distortion on one channel) and "hung" consistently after the POST on
attempted warm booting from a SATA drive. I returned it to the
supplier for replacement under warranty and have had no problems
either with the replacement or with the second one I subsequently
bought to upgrade another system. I am using premium PC3200 memory on
both boards - using cheap memory seems predictably to lead to
stability problems with all high-spec boards, including these. Also
make sure (especially if you have SATA drives) that you update to the
latest BIOS and disk drivers.

Yep. A couple of good points.

I'm using SATA so I updated the BIOS and grabbed the latest drivers (check
my FAQ for links to them all).

I'm also using Corsair 3200LL whih is pretty good RAM.

In terms of drivers and firmware/BIOS what I did was to download the latest
drivers, then install the motherboard. At the first opportunity (not
initial power on, but as soon as I'd confirmed stability) I updated the
BIOS. On Windows installation, I pointed it to the downloaded drivers and
I've had no problems with it.

On two of those boards I'm using Elixir RAM. $60 for 512MB sticks.
Both run rock solid for me but YMMV.

If you give a little they give a lot.
