Hey all,

This is a combo unit. The drive has 4 wires for hook-up. I have connected
the unit to the USB 3 port using the 4 bottom pins (+5 / -5 / data+ /
data-). The 5 upper pins of USB3 are 6volt.

Cannot see the drives, any one have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

There is no -5 on USB. Page 31 of the manual gives a pinout of the USB
header.

I'm having trouble too, the PC wont even boot up when the USB is
connected to the motherboard USB connector. My mobo is a A7N8X (not
deluxe)
The pins seem correct as labeled. I bought two of these things so I
don't think it's the drive. Maybe I should look at Mitsumi's site or
mail them. If the drive connector is pinned wrong I don't want to
switch pins around without knowing exactly what I'm doing. Could blow
the drive or mobo away.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks,

Have been to Mitsumi site, not much help except some specs I didn't
have. Seems like the problem must be Asus related or we would see
more posts with problems. I have searched newsgroups pretty well. If
it is Asus are there any Asus folks looking in that may be able to
help?

Thanks,

Hey all,

Okay, the local geek store had identified some type of troubs with the black
face units. The beige, which the replaced for a buddy of mine, was just
installed and is working fine.

So take the unit to them, have them try them it out.

Perhaps a bad batch from Mitsumi?

Thanks,

George

Is this a regular floppy drive plus a USB memory card reader?
Or is the floppy USB also?

This a regular floppy drive plus a USB memory card reader, combo unit.

Machine 1 - black drive (does not work)
Machine 2 - Beige drive (works, replaced in place of the black drive)

If you look in the registry, do a find on mounteddevices (one word) and
check the values. I find registry entries for the drives on machine 1. I'm
a hardware geek, not a regedit geek. I find the entries interesting as XP
has assigned my root drive as G: One of the USB drives was assigned the C:
drive. Logically, to me, it seems this is the key. Perhaps a key value
that is not valid? Any regedit geeks? Machine 2 has no entries in its
registry for the USB drives. Both MB's are on the same BIOS level.

I'm on lunch now but will check the entries on machine 2 with the beige
drive later tonight. I will later try copying those keys over to machine 1,
who knows.

In machine 1 after I first loaded the OS, I know I saw the USB drives. I
then applied the two USB 2.0 fixes and they disappeared. That's what led me
to looking in the registry.

I never saw the drives in machine 2 until the drive was replaced with the
beige version.

Thanks,

I have the 7-in-1 USB Mitsumi Floppy/Card Reader combo drive as well.
It is the Black version. I am running XP Pro SP1

My floppy drive works fine for floppy disks, but it wasn't until just
yesterday that I purchased a digital camera and tried to use the CF
card in the reader that I noticed I didn't know how the combo drive
should work.

Should I see 7 additional drives in the My Computer window? I only
see my hard drives and CD ROM drives, and never have seen anything
else.

Device Manager looks fine. When I insert the CF card in the reader,
absolutely nothing happens. I check My Computer and nothing has
changed. How do I get the Reader to work? I checked my BIOS and all
USB is enabled. I haven't physically opened my case to see if things
are connected well. My MB is an ASUS.

I also checked the registry for mounteddevices, and suspiciously there
are my drives ACDEF and 7 others (the readers?) with ??/ and GUIDs
instead of drive names
\??\Volume{44c4a2ed-e947-11d7-8813-806d6172696f} is an example.

wait... I just checked the values of these 7 "unknowns", and 5 of the
seven appear to point back to the A,C,D,E,F drives. The other two, I
don't know.

Anyways, I still would like to know what I should be "seeing" in the
My Computer... should I see a CF Reader icon? An extra drive letter?
Nothing until I insert the CF card into the floppy, and then something
should appear? Maybe I shouldn't be looking in My Computer at all...
somewhere else maybe?

Thanks.

I just installed the Mitsumi black-face 7 in 1. I show all the slots as
"removable disks" in My Computer. I'm using WinXP Pro on A7NX Deluxe rev 2
board. The prob I have is that the reader won't recognize a formatted
smartmedia card that is recognized by the camera and an USB external card
reader. I'm in contact with Mitsumi tech support, but no answer yet.

Kory,

Yours is not working. In addition to your hard drive, floppy and CD Rom
your should see two removable devices:

ComactFlash
SM /MS /SD

Have you checked your registry for the key mounted devices?

I found my problem. I opened the case and the USB cable for the drive
wasn't even connected. I connected it, rebooted, and voila! Two
"removable" drives appeared. I inserted the CF card and it opened
right up.

Everything seems to work fine for me. My BIOS is set for USB enabled,
