GSV Three Minds in a Can

Yeah, yeah, I know it's an antique but ..

The last set of drivers on the Asus website(s) appear to be '1.16' dated
20/Jan/2003 (2+ years old). There are new '5.10' nVidia unified drivers
on the nVidia websute, but if I install those I no longer appear to have
any Equalizer functions in the nForce Tray applet (now called nVMixer,
albeit with the same icon). Actually I can't even adjust bass/treble any
more, never mind equalizing!!.

I guess I could just bin the board, but I'm hanging on for (affordable)
dual-core system .. what drivers are other folks using with their A7N8X
Deluxes these days (and do you have Equalizer working in nvMixer?).

Why is sound so *&^%&%$ difficult!!

TIA

I would not go that far still a good board as far as I'm concerned. :)

I've recently done away with the on-board sound because I was finding
it was causing stuttering in various games and therefore decided to
get a Audigy2 ZS sound card. Got rid of the stuttering and the sound
quality seems better - not that I had an issue with this.

However, prior to this I had gone down the same path as you and got
the updated drivers from Nvidia. I think al I done was to make sure I
un-installed the Nforce software and drivers (and probably restarted
the machine) before finally installing the new software and drivers -
don't recall having any problems.

Oh that and made sure I disabled my firewall and aniti-virus software.
HTH.

I found this to be a problem on my A7N8X Deluxe as well. I couldn't
find why it works on some systems and others not. I did find a
resolution that worked consistently for me. I unzipped the Win XP 64
bit driver set and plucked the Audio Utilities (v4.50) directory from
the Win XP 64 bit Unified Driver set and plugged it into the appropriate
directory structure in place of the one included in the 5.10 UDA
package, then reinstalled the 5.10 pack. Then I installed the separate
Audio Driver Package (v4.57). That returned the nvMixer and
Bass/Mid/Treble controls. Hope it helps.
