Just bought a HDD caddy so I can boot "out of the machine" onto a USB
HDD. Only to find that this all singing, all dancing, highly
recommended M/board doesn't support USB boot....apparently. Is this
true...or can someone point me in the right direction?

thanks

AFAIK the Rev2.0 boards support it, but not the Rev1.0x

I just got a USB FLash Drive and I also have a Rev2.0 board, so when I find
out how to format this thing from Windows 2000, I'll try it out.

AFAIK not all flash drives are bootable either, I doubt mine is, it's a
USB 1 device and about 2 years old. ;p

Well mine is supposed to be bootable, but none of the software for it seems
to work.

From what I understand, there is some software that will allow it to be
formatted with a bootable area, and for some areas to be "protected". Just
wish the software would do something when I run it, rather than sitting
there rather discretely in the background without even a GUI.

Don't forget to set the MB bios to boot from "USB-HDD" as the 1st boot
device in the Advanced Bios Features section.

I'm not sure if booting from a USB flash drive is related to booting from a
USB HDD, but in order to boot my USB flash drive, I had to set the MB bios
to boot from a USB ZIP drive AND enable "USB Legacy Support" (the default is
disabled). The format utility that I got with my flash drive (Apacer
Steno 2.0) formats the flash drive to boot
as if it were a USB ZIP drive. The MB sees the flash drive as if it is a
USB ZIP drive successfully & boots only if I set BOTH MB bios parameters as
above.

Good luck,
Tom

Yeah, all the talk of my one is about having it set up as a USB-ZIP. Most
of these devices come under "USB Mass Storage", I would have thought that
they are the same, but that the ZIP option allows for removeable media.

My problem is not in getting it to boot (yet) but in getting the flash drive
formatted to boot.
