Hail to this Group !

As a new user of this mainboard, I had difficulties with my 2 slots of RAM :
1*256 PQI and 1*256 Elixir.
I think this was the origin of instability of my system, with reboot, NTLDR
problems, etc.

What kind of RAM do you use, and which brand ? Samsung, Corsair, Dan-Elec,
Winbond ? With which specs ?

Thx to your answers, and have fun !

Gus

I use Crucial, with good results in 2 different A7N8X-DLX mobos.

I think its always better to use RAMs of the same manufacturer.

I had a hell of a time with Samsung RAM. At first, couldn't install the
operating system. Had to lower the frequency to 100MHz to get the op system
installed. When installed, racked up the frequency to 166MHz and found that
although the PC would boot fine, it would hang after the boot session had
finished. Sent the two sticks of 256MB back to supplier and obtained two of
Crucial. Haven't looked back since.

Corsair TwinX1024-3200LL, is happy at 2-2-2-7 at 220MHz

Thanks for your explainations.
I'll change my RAM for 2 Corsair. As Claude says, 2 different manufacturers
may result in troubles and crashes.

Have a nice day, all of you

I'm yet to come across anybody that can give me a technical reason why two
DIMMs from different manufacturers could cause problems.

I suggest you back your timings right off (3-4-4-11) and confirm that they
are both running at their rated speed, then check stability there. Then
lower the timings and see how it goes.

2 x 512 MB Crucial CT6464Z40BA
DDR PC3200 CL=3 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC 5ns 2.6V 64Meg x 64

I'm using the default BIOS memory settings and have had
rock-solid performance.

I'm buying the same board, which slots do you put the pair of ram into
for dual channel operation?

To utilize dual channel memory feature install two or more sticks of ram
in one of the following sequence: Sockets 1&3, Sockets 2&3 or Sockets
1,2&3. Look at the very top of the dimm sockets on the board for the
socket number.

I finally bought 2*256 Corsair XMS LL.... 179 euros, ouch !
Works fine, FSB 200.
Set on DIMM 1 & 3 for dual chan.
memtest86 compliant
Let's dream.....

Ben pope : I'm not really sure that having 2 differents manufacturers's RAM
isn't a good idea..... it's just a feeling :-)
I have read that nforce2 chipset is high sensitive and doesn't allow noname
RAM (this would explain my problems)
