Currently, my system will only boot at 1250 and not 2600 as expected.
When I set the bios speed to 166, it will kick back to 100 after a
failed boot. Am I missing something obvious?
Also-512 meg 2700 ram

first of all the 2600 barton will not run at 2600
If I remember right its FSB of 166(333) times its multiplier of 11.5 runs it at
1917
what version of the deluxe do you have ?? there are 2 ..the 1.06(?) and the ver
2.0
take a look here and see if this applies

are you running your mem in sync with the chips FSB speed??

where do you find the bios revision information of the board?
All I see is the a7n8x deluxe UAY.

I thought the bios was rev 1-103 but turned out to be 2-103. I
upgraded the bios to 2-108 thinking that might make a difference, but
it didn't. I did discover a bad mem chip along the way that actually
stopped the system from booting. However, still booting at fsb 100;
multiplier at 12.5. Other settings just wont boot. The mem is set at
166. so, I'm not sure what is amiss...perhaps another board\mem\cpu
problem that is lurking around the corner?

Are you sure it's a Barton CPU?

Recent XP CPUs are multiplier locked. There is an XP2600 which runs at
2.083Ghz, which is 166 x 12.5.

Have you tried settting the CPU's FSB at 166 manually, and the memory set to
Auto?
