It seems to take a long time searching for a RAID array (whuch I don't have)
during bootup. Any way to speed this up or eliminate it?

The answer you seek is probably on page 19 of your motherboard manual.

Hint: Disable SATA if not in use.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Doh! I moved the jumper and it now it blazes thru bootup so fast that I
have to hold del when I power up if I need to get to the bios menu.
Thanks, callsignviper!

You're welcome.

You might also consider disabling other devices (in BIOS setup) you're not
using.

It won't necessarily speed up anything but it minimizes the chances of an
IRQ conflict should you decide to add PCI cards later.

I have the following disabled in my BIOS setup: Serial Ports (both), AC '97
modem (or something like that (not sure what that is used for)), Parallel
Port, MIDI Port, Game Port, and Firewire. SATA is disabled with the jumper.

HTH.
