When I power up A7N8X MB the Belkin KVM
switches erratically until windows loads. It usually works
after windows boots, but sometimes the mouse and
keyboard are not recognized. But I can never enter
the CMOS setup. My P4C800 works fine with this
KVM. Could this be a power supply problem?
I had the same one in each computer, but replaced
the one in the P4C800 because of flakey problems.
like drives randomly not being recognized.
The old one was a cheap 550 watt the new was a
better quality 520 watt.
I also tried the USB jumpers on both +5 and +5VSB

thanks

Can you switch this one via software? How does it connect to the machine -
on PS/2 connectors? How does it switch?

Are they PS/2 or USB?
But I can never enter the CMOS setup.

If they're USB try enabling legacy support in the BIOS.

Unlikely, but with PSU problems - anything can go wrong first really.

Well, as long as you have a PSU that can do 2A on the +5VSB (and you should)
that'll be fine.

At the moment, I have no idea how your KVM works, so if you can give me some
more details that'll help.

I knew I'd leave something out.
The keyboard and mouse are USB. And the KVM gets
it's power from the USB port.

I use Belkin KVM's with the PC's in my lab at school. They seem to
work fine, switching between a windows PC and a UNIX work station. If
the problem exists, it is probably with the nVidia chipset on the ASUS
motherboard that contains the keyboard and mouse controllers. All I
could suggest is to try a few different combinations of PC's.

I have had two Belkin KVM units. The first was bought a year or so ago, and
the second was recently purchased (with the 'new style' upright case). The
first unit persistently gave problems with some motherboards. It worked fine
with other boards, and I spoke to Belkin about whether there was any
possibility of a firmware fix. The second unit, runs fine with exactly the
same boards, and has not glitched even once in the last couple of months.
There does appear to be a problem with the older units, and some
motherboards. However the same unit, is running fine with different PC's...

Thanks everybody, I swapped the power
supply from the computer that worked and it didn't fix the
problem. So it looks like it is the KVM / A7N8X combo.
I was planning on upgrading to a K8V deluxe in a few
months Any one know if this Belkin model KVM
F1DL102U two port USB will work with the K8V

One alternative that may fix the problem. If this is the unit I think it is,
it supports both USB, and PS/2, using a different cable set for the latter.
On the unit that was giving me problems, I switched to using the PS/2 cable
set, for the computer showing the problem, and it then worked fine!...
I think at least part of the problem is that the BIOS's on these boards, do
not enable the 'legacy' option, till quite late in the boot. Most of these
boards 'beep' when the USB devices are detected, and on the machines that
work, this beep comes before the prompt for CMOS setup, and drive detection
is shown. On the machines that displayed this fault, the beep comes only a
fraction of a second before prompt to enter the CMOS stup disappears, and I
have never managed to get the BIOS to go into the setup screen with a USB
connection, even by hitting the key 'frenetically' at this point...
An SK8V, was one of the computers that worked OK.

Agreed. Sounds like a USB problem.

I have an older IOGear KVM that uses PS/2 and it's worked on absolutely
every set of computers I've tried it on. I typically use it two run two
systems (an A7N8X-dlx and a Soyo Dragon+), but also use it for building and
testing other computers (worked well with mobos from Abit, MSI, BioStar, as
well as Asus and Soyo).

This model has built in cables and is USB only.
I attached the USB keyboard and mouse directly
and am not able enter the BIOS setup but
the keyboard works after windows is finished loading.
