All,
I've seen some messages on this group about the discrepancy between Asus
probe and BIOS probe readings. I myself just installed a 2800+ and noticed
a similar discrepancy -- I saw 65C + temps on boot in the BIOS but only 40's
on the Asus Probe utility. I also had problems with unexpected system
shutdown during periods of high load.
However, after redoing the thermal paste and reinstalling the heat sink (a
Volcano), I now see much better and more comparable numbers -- high 40's,
low 50's in the BIOS and mid 40's in the utility. So far no shutdowns
either.
So to anyone who is relying on the probe utility but seeing instability,
keep in mind that (from my experience anyway) you should also probably check
the BIOS and make sure that both stay in the 50's or lower.
