New install (um, several now - sigh) of Win98SE on this MB. Same problems
persist:

NVIDIA Audio: "The NTKERN.VXD, MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader(s) for this
device could not load the device driver. (Code 2.)"

NVIDIA MCP Networking Adapter: "The NDIS.VXD, NTKERN.VXD device loader(s)
for this could not load the device driver. (Code 2.)

I've seen the same problem posted in some of the tech groups and even
earlier here about a month ago. Unfortunately, no word of a solution.

All drivers loaded manually per the instructions, and all went well
except these.

Also have a similar problem with the on-board MIDI. Can't use the NVIDIA
driver, but the MS driver will load without problems.

If anyone can help, my few remaining hairs will be eternally greatful.

Cheers,
Buster

I've used this board (rev 1.005 bios) & it works fine in Win 2000/XP, linux
& FreeBSD. Win98 SE is very old & has too many security holes.

The only isssue I've hsd is to change the BIOS to "Lecacy USB Device" in
linux.

I run W2kPro myself, and I agree w/your comments. This is not my box, but I
may resort to a different OS if I have no choice. One would wonder tho, why
all the W98 drivers included if in fact it won't work on that OS.

Windows XP really shines on that MB. Everyone with Win98 and the A7N266-VM
has had issues. Just make the move to XP and your troubles will disappear.

I got to agree with Greg. I built 7 PCs with this board all with Windows
2000, and never a lick of trouble. The last one I built was for a friend
who insisted on windows 98SE. When I got around to installing the
chipset drivers and saw all the bull crap I had to go through to get the
drivers loaded manually I convinced her to reconsider which she
reluctantly did. Certainly there are thousands of people who are happily
using 98 on this board, but if you want to make it easy on yourself I'd
start over with 2000.

OK. I get the hint. W2k it is. We'll see...

Well.... Don't waste time trying to install Win98SE on this mb. Tried W2k
and it went hassle free. No problems. I put a MASSIVE effort into the W98
install (I am not a newbie) to no avail. Thanks for the comments/help.
Greatly appreciated.
