A7N266 - no power to cdrom or hard drive

I'm pretty sure this is a power supply problem, but I thought I would
ask here just to make sure I'm not missing something.

Everything seems to be ok at boot, but the A7N266 was not detecting my
hard drive or CDRW drive. I played with the IDE cable for a bit, still
no go. It then occured to me that neither drive was receiving power -
couldn't here/feel the HDD spinning and couldn't open the CD tray. The
motherboard seems to be getting power fine and the floppy drive works
fine, which I found odd. Anyway, no matter how I connect them, neither
drive can get power.

Sounds like a PS problem to me, but any other ideas?

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I tried a new power supply - same problem! Any ideas?

Looks like a very weird problem to me. Certainly not anything I've
ever seen before. Maybe something strange is happening in one of them,
causing the other not to function either. Have you tried them
seperatly?

Maybe the best thing you can do is test them out of the case, using
your old PSU. If you connect the HD, you should feel it spinning. If
you connect the CD, it should be possible to open the door. If that's
alright connect them both and see if they still do.

PS. to power up an ATX PSU out of a case you have to short pins 14 and
15 using a paperclip.

You are setting the drives up in the BIOS (or setting the BIOS to auto
detect them) too aren't you?

Oops, that looks a much better first test than what I suggested :-)

The other thing that springs to mind is the Master/Slave jumpers on the HDD
and CDRW

are they set correctly?
