I have the a7m-266 and added in a pci card for usb2. The card is seen by
the OS but I can't get it to recognize usb 2. It runs at about 1MBs for
transfers from a Maxtor 1touch.

Help

TIA

I recently installed a D-Link DUB-A2 USB 2.0 PCI adapter in one of my
A7M266 running Win XP Home systems and it works fine.

In device manager do you see a line in Universal serial bus
controllers that says VIA USB enhanced host controller? That would
indicate its properly installed and recognized

Thanks for getting back to me so fast.

What I see is -> Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
According to ms this is the correct listing for USB 2. However, when I plug
my Maxtor in is shows up as high speed device plugged into non high speed
hub. The error balloon leads to a dbx that shows a high speed controller
with all ports empty. I try plugging into different outlets on the card
with the same results.

2 days ago (before I formatted and reinstalled XP) the drive showed up as
USB 2 for no apparent reason. Now I remove all traces of USB from device
manager and reboot and it still won't show.

Perhaps move it to a diff slot. Mine is 2 down from AGP slot

Good News. I removed the modem in slot 4 (it wasn't setup yet and showed a
question mark in device manager). Moved the USB 2 card to that slot and
everything is running OK now with the drivers from XP Service Pack 1.

Thanks a LOT for your help.

Oh i was going to ask you a question about that Maxtor 1 touch back
up.

How does it determine what to back? Do you specify specific
directories? I'm curious what the software interface allows you to do
as far as selective back up and retrieval

I haven't spent much time with the 1 Touch software but from what I see at a
glance...
You configure the folders you want watched - set backup type -> copy /
compressed / etc and close. Then when you touch the button on the front of
the drive it runs the script.
I am just using it as portable storage with separate synchronized
directories for multiple machines (wife - son - home - office). The
important stuff is always available and I get the benefit of a portable
music collection.

Thanks again for your help. It is working now but still forgets that it is
attached to a USB 2 hub occasionally and slows down. It is as if the drive
just falls off the hub. Windows sees the hub but shows all ports available.
I can unplug from one outlet - wait - plug to a different outlet and when XP
sees the drive it still shows unoccupied ports. STRAANNGGEE!
