Windows Vista Home Premium WILL NOT upgrade Windows XP Professional. You
will need one of the upper level upgrades. Now I have to see if Best Buy
will refund my money.

Good luck! Most stores won't accept opened software for return. Have you
approached Microsoft on this? I presume you main need is for domain logon as
that was the primary difference between XP Home and Pro. IIRC the Vista
version comparable to XP Pro is Vista Business.

Frank what you say is partly correct. VHP upgrade can not do a in place
upgrade but it can be used to do a custom install over Windows XP. There is
a difference between the ability to use an upgrade edition and the ability
to do an in place upgrade with it. Using the Windows Easy Transfer method
(WET) on the XP installation you can transfer data and settings to the new
Vista installation.

See this link for info on the upgrade paths. Green dots mean an in place
upgrade is support, yellow means only a custom installation.

frank, you can do a clean install with Windows Vista Home Premium on a
computer with Windows XP Professional. I had this same problem. You can
even keep your old files when you do a clean install, because vista keeps
them in a folder called "windows.old". i didnt wanna go thru the hastle of
returning it so this is what i did.

Hi,

The link you provided for the Refund Info for 45 days is not working.

Do you have a different link?

I would sure appreciate it. I bought Ultimate Full Version Retail and i
can't tell you how unhappy i am with this software.

Thanks much,
