So sorry if this has already been covered, I didn't get many past posts to
read in my newsreader, and I just formated a hard drive I now want to sell
(purrfectly good - 2 mos.old - 200GIG) - had my sensitive work docs on it,
want to make SURE it is alllllll gone, before I sell it.

****I am sure hoping when I get it all "wiped" that I should see 200gig
EMPTY/FREE. (yes??)

Any ideas please and thank you very much :)

goto sourceforge.net and download Eraser. This was covered in an
earlier post, you might try one of them for a direct link.

I agree with xtort.

That depends on how you measure a gigabyte. HDD manufacturers
advertise size based on 1 GB = 1 x 10^12 bytes. Windows (and most
other software) uses 1 GB = 2^30 bytes, so you may see

( 200 x 10^12 ) / ( 2^30 ) = 186.3 GB

or so.

HTH, as my plonk file seems to have failed. ;)

Hello,

There is a program called ENCASE that has a destroy feature! You will not
find anythign on a drive after using it, but it will take a while to do one
that big.
You could always try all the other apps and then use encase to examine the
drive to see if they work. Lots of them don't work, so don't be caught out.

You and others have been holding forth about this program ENCASE and how
wonderful it is ... but nobody has been forthcoming about how or where to
obtain it. So how about it?

Probably because it's Off-Topic ($ware), but I'll bet if you went to
http://www.******.com you'd find it.

EnCase is highly regarded forensic software, sold only to law enforcement.
(Not cheap, either.) Of course there are pirate copies floating around,
apparently "liberated" by some jerk with physical access to a disk. The
newer versions of EnCase have awesome capabilities. If you want to know
more, visit the home page.
