I have this event in my Application Event log:

Source: SecurityCenter
Category: None
EventID: 1807

Description:
The Security Center Service has been stopped. It was prevented from running
by a software group policy

This Windows XP SP2 Professional is in a Windows 2000 SP4 Domain. From what
I can tell here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/7/9/879a7b46-5ddb-4a82-b64d-64e791b
3c9ae/06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC

"the Security Center is not available on [Windows XP SP2] computers that are
joined to a
Windows domain"

OK that is fine. But this document also says:

"If an organization decides to use the Security Center on the computers in
their organization, they must change the Group Policy setting to On"

OK that's fine also. Does anyone know exactly what Group Policy on the
Domain Controller should be set to "On?" The Domain Controller is a Windows
2000 machine as I mentioned above and the document gives no further
information on what exactly has to be changed in the Group Policy on the
Domain Controller. Thanks.

Howdy George!

You would use the Group Policy feature to tell your computers to
activate the security center. Organize all your domain computers that
shall activate the Security Center in a OU and start "gpedit.msc" from
Start->Run. Nativate to your OU and create a new GPO for this OU. Edit
it and navigate to "ComputerConfiguration\Administrative
Templates\Security Center\" and activate the setting "Turn on Security
Center (Domain PCs only)".

cheers,

Florian

Is the security center policy available on a W2K DC? Or is it a W2K3 thing
only?

If it's not present, you will need to import the Windows XP or Windows
Server ADM-templates _or_ (and that is the better way to do that) edit
the GPs from a WindowsXP workstation (using Adminpak.msi).

Okie dokei. So I bring the Adm template from the XP Professional into the
W2K server? Trouble is the Security Center service does not exist in the W2K
server. Can you provide a more step by step solution to this issue? Thanks.

The policy only applies to clients that are capable of handling the policy -
it has no effect on servers because the don't have the security service.

OK I will give it a shot. I will find the adm that has the Group Policy for
the Security Center in my Windows XP Pro client and import that into my
Group Policy on the Win 2000 DC and I should be good to go?
