I run a virus checker (AVG) on a regular basis, but recently I discovered a
trojan horse in a folder named "system volume information".

I found it because if my computer runs for any length of time with no
activity I get an error or alert that tells me where the virus is, its name,
and that I should run AVG to get rid of it.

Trouble is AVG doesn't see it. I tried to delete the directory and the file
it contains but I get a message telling me I can't delete the folder. Even
in the DOS shell I can't access the directory.

Any ideas?

I'm running XP Home.

Thanks in advance for any forthcoming assistance.

Hi

The System Volume Information folder holds the files for System Restore. To delete the virus from that folder:

Right click on My Computer, select Properties and then the System Restore tab. Enable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC. After that reboot, go back into System Restore disable 'Turn off System Restore on all drives' and reboot your PC again. After the second reboot, System Restore will create a new Point and the virus will have been deleted.

Thank you very much. I will try that right now!
