To have a visual count down, and progression on presentation time available
when doing a presentation in a certain allotted time frame with several
representatives doing their own section. It is important to know the allowed
time, available time, as well as to see the progression of each and every
person while doing the presentation. This prevents people from rushing
through some of the last slides which could be the most important as well as
prevent the different presenters to steal time from the following presenter.

This seems to me the presenter's job to be aware of the time, not the
software to do it for them. Having PPT do a countdown seems like it would be
counterproductive and a distraction to the audience, who might be watching
the countdown timer, not paying attention to the speaker.

I like it when they have the really big guy offstage with the hook ...;-)
