A thought about what antivirus

I keep seeing the same questions asked about which antivirus is the
best. In the freelance business I am in there is a saying that says
"you are only as good as your last job". Same with antiviruses. There
all good until the one you use misses the virus that causes you to
reformat and start over. The best antivirus starts with you. DON'T
OPEN ATTACHMENTS to start with and have a good firewall. Antiviruses
are only one part of trying to have a secure computer.

Just my opinion though.

I agree. Things like MyDoom are ALL the users fault. I can't
understand why anybody would save an attachment from someone they
don't know/were not expecting, extract it and then run it!

With all the media coverage of viruses, etc I cant believe some people
are still stupid enough to open things like that :(

The latest thing in virus e-mail attatchments are self-extracting virus
files. You don't have to open the attachment - it opens itstelf.

That was the "latest thing" some number of years ago.

Self extracting (SFX) files (with a .EXE file extension) are nothing
new. You have to click on them to start an auto-run (in the case where
it is an auto-run).

Please explain what you're referring to and give an example. I know of
no attackments that "open themselves".
