a taunting virus?

i am (or was?) running XP Professional on a P4 2.6ghz with 512mb ram with no
virus problems until now.

today the computer switched itself off out of the blue as i was using it. i
turned it on again and after it loaded up and i logged in, the screen flashed
black a few times and then it switched off again.
i unplugged everything, unscrewed the case, blew a few tonnes of dust out of
it and hooked it up again. it ran fine for a few hours until it did something
different. the screen stopped receiving signal, but the computer was still
running. i turned it off again (from the power button) and then back on. the
computer booted, but nothing would come up on the screen. i know the computer
boots up fine (sadly enough i can primarily tell by the sounds it makes :p),
so it was just the screen not receiving signal.
i turned the computer off again and then back on. again, nothing came up on
the screen, but a sound came through the speakers, sounding like a childish
taunt. it sounded like it was saying "we can see your peepee" but i doubt
that's what it was really saying.

so now i turn it on once, goes to login screen but nothing shows on screen,
i turn it off and on again, and it plays that taunting sound.
my sister's suggestion is that it could be a virus that's disabling the
screen, but i don't know.

much of my vital data is stored on my external hard disk, but a VERY large
portion of my day-to-day files are stored on the main, internal drive. any
help on this would be VERY appreciated

I just read something on Microsoft updates about the XP system shutting down.
It had a list of suggestions, but I didn't read them all. (I was looking
for help on another problem with XP)

Ensure that the processor and power supply fans are running up to speed..
also try another screen on it..
