a strange question about Email size

I meet a strange issue today.

there is a image insert in the original email. the mail size is 418k byte.
the receiver replid the mail included the origional mail.

so , the second mail should larger than the first one. but it's size is only
42K byte.

i just want to know is there any possible reason for it?

Did the recipient's mail client compress the image? You won't know until you
save the image in the reply to your hard drive and check it.

If there was an attachment, when the original recipient replied, it's likely
the attachment was removed, so the message should be smaller.

hi brian thank you. but The image does not send as an attachment. just
insert in the mail content. in the replied mail I still can see the image.
