I know how to block an entire domain in the HOSTS file.

But I don't want to block the entire domain. I want to block only a
particular URL within that domain.

Is there an easy way to do this on Windows XP? Internet Explorer?

Thanks,
Jenna

I can only think of hard ways. If you have a software firewall, that may
have the ability to block specific URLs.

Otherwise it would be down to your browser. I know there are ways to do
this in the Opera browser, but they are in the "Here be dragons" section
of the advanced user guide.

You can add a particular URL into your HOSTS file just fine.

Easy in IE 6 or 7 too; see Help.

Thanks, but the HOSTS file blocks the ENTIRE site... Same thing with
Content Advisor in IE 6 or 7.

By now I am convinced there is no easy way.

What are the hard ways?

PAC files. Not that hard, just a bid of fiddling to set it up but
otherwise not much more difficult than host files.
