Hi everyone, hope you are all feeling good this muggy day :D

My graphics card has died a death worthy of Macbeth himself.

Having had a nosey around the graphics cards on OCUK I discovered I am well out of the loop.

Am I right in thinking the
Radeon HD 4890 is the best bang-for-buck? Anyone able to give me any advice? I seem to recall the old Catalyst drivers being a little to the glitchy side to say the least. I wouldn't want to spend more than £120-ish.

Any advice appreciated :)

This will help bring you up to date.

Kicked around the internet, thinking I'm going to go for the GTX 275 for £150.

I so don't want to drop £150 into the bottomless pit of computer upgrades again though :p

Anybody in the market for a broken 7900gt? Any point putting it on ebay?

My old 8800 GTX s on ebay atm, pm me for item number. :)

The GTX 275 looks like a winner, I was going to grab one too - but my pocket book said no. :D

If you don't do a deal for V_R's 8800 (a fine card, I still have the 640Mb Mk 1 GTS8800 which handles all current games) either the 260, 275 or HD4890 will do you.

The Catalyst drivers are better nowadays and there are some bargains to be had with ATI cards but I personally feel more comfortable with Nvidia cards still.

The Asus 275 is currently £150.00 at OCUK and their own brand is £160.00 (both with a free Terminator game though I don't know if the game is any good and also add a tenner for postage).

Whereas you can get a top range 260 for around £130.00 plus postage.

If budget is a prime consideration then go for the 260, it will suit your needs admirably for the price.

cheers anyway mind.

I bought the 275 yesterday evening, £160 inc. postage for the Asus branded card. Cheap as chips. except for the fact I'm now in my overdraft :p. Paid a good £270 for my 7900GT way back when :(

Thanks for all your inputs guys, much appreciated.

I remember paying that much for a 6800GT - but that was a fine card for its time :)
