The program always detects three threats.

When I instruct the program to get rid of the threats, it does its thing....

When I clean again, the threats are still there!

It is frustrating knowing that the threats are there if the program cant do
anything about them

Does microsoft have any suggestions?

The threats are

1) Claria.screen.scenes

2) ShopAtHome

3) QuickLinks

My vote so far is absolutely useless

Did you select Remove in the box for the final results by each threat? Microsoft ASW has a bad habit of putting an Ignore value in the dropdown box which must be changed by the user to Remove.

What's up Doc;
Dunno if Ms has any suggestions, since they have no active presence on this
forum, but have you scanned with MsAntiSpyware in Safe Mode?

Your frustration is understandable, given the circumstances.

Please go with Dave M's advice--restart Windows in safe mode by pressing the
f8 function key before the first windows screen appears. Do full, deep
scans with Microsoft Antispyware, and with your up-to-date antivirus
software, until a complete scan comes through clean.

Besides Dave M's advice,
1-Make sure MSAS is fully up to date
2-Make sure you are doing a full scan
3-Disconnet yourself from the internet
4-See if the program(s) are listed in the add/remove list, if they are
remove then (wintools is one of these type of programs)

Let me know if this helps

First off, try CWShredder
(http://www.trendmicro.com.au/consumer/downloads/cws_dl.php, just remember to
update it before running) to deal with ShopAtHome. If you have QuickTime
installed, you will have to uninstall and then reinstall QuickTime since the
latest version of CWShredder (v2.18) incorrectly detects qttask.exe as
qttasks.exe. Using the version that installed when you downloaded CWShredder
will not detect ShopAtHome since it is newer than the downloaded version of
CWShredder (v2.15).

For the other infections, make certain that you are using the adminstrator
account that installed MSAS. Otherwise the removal WILL fail, as the current
release of MSAS is only single-user since Giant AntiSpyware was single-user.

Hello all,

Thanks for your help.

It turns out one must perform scans while logged in with admin privelages.

I did just that, logged in as admin, and all the problem files were taken
care of by the program in the first instance of running it.

Good luck and thanks again

I changed to admin privelages and the program, in the first instance of
scanning, go rid of the problem files!

Looks like there is no overriding properties when an unprivelaged user
attempts to use the program for what it is intended to do..

This may be a problem for the programmers to work out

Thanks for all the suggestions guys

The programmers are, indeed, working on that issue. Stay tuned for changes
in beta2.

Alan,

I wanted to thank you for your suggestion to use CWShredder. Although this
program didn't actually find any of the bad stuff that had infected my
computer, it did lead me to the Trend Micro Antispyware free 30-day trial
subscription. This thing really worked and got rid of all the bad stuff. I
intend to purchase their software. I run four different antispyware progrms
routinely and none of them found the infecting files. Trend Micro really
works. The best part is that it is free for 30 days! Here is the link to
download their software. I checked and they are a reputable international
company that is even traded on the stock exchange.

Thanks again Alan. Your lead ended up solving my problem.
