A recorded speech should be able to auto advance slides

It would be great if you could insert a recorded speech where power point
could show a time line and you could insert click advances a differnt times
durning that speech so that it will automatically advance your slides to
corespond with your speech. This would be great for training or for use on
the web.

You can record a narration as you run through the show advancing the slides
as you speak then save the timings.

To use an existing sound file insert it to play across the whole
presentation (http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00047.htm) then slide show->rehearse
timings. Run through your presentation clicking when you want etc and say
'yes' when it asks if you want to save the timings at the end of the show.
When you replay the show it will run itself (as long as you have selected
'Use timings if present' under Advance Slides in the slide show->setup show
dilaogue box).

I have'nt tried it yet but that looks like it will work. Thanks a bunch. I am
curious if it will work on the web. I know you have 2 different ways putting
on the web either the ppt file itself or a generated web fill but if you have
this 12 meg mp3 file in the power point file will it have to be fully
dowloaded before it will begin play or will it stream?
 
Ok I tried it and it works great and found the answer to my html question.
There one last thing I need help with. This auto advancing the slide using
mp3 looks like it will only work as long as it on my computer because I can't
figure out how to point the mp3 file to my website folder. This would be
perfect if could tell me how to do this. I am still curious how much a delay
there will be since the mp3 file will be at the mercy of the user connection
speed.
 
I just using a standerd webhosting package from Godaddy. I already use it to
stream audion and it works fine on dsl or higher. All I really need to know
is there a way to point to the mp3 file so that it will look for it in the
same directory as the power point file. That will make it possible for it to
find it and pick it from the web folder and it would make it possible to read
from a CD if a person decides to put their speech/presntaion on it to give to
others.
 
I did a presentation similar to what the original question asked by making
audio files for each slide. As soon as the audio for a slide finishes it
moves to the next slide. It was a little more work doing it that way but it
worked just fine. I used "what you hear" as the recording source and used
my computer microphone to make the audio explanation for each slide.

I recorded them as mp3 then converted them to .wav using a free copy of CDEX
which keeps the wave file about as small as the mp3 original so it can be
imbedded without making the overall ppt file too large. That way it insures
it will play OK on any computer that has PPT Viewer.

Darrell I downloaded and used you converter tool but the mp3 file and the wav
file dont even begin to compare in size. My mp3 was 14 meg and once it
converted it to wav it was 162 meg. That way to big to stream on the web and
to have to break up a speech for each slide is more work than I am willing to
do. Thanks anyway.
 
Sorry about that. I did mine quite a while ago. I forgot that I downloaded
and used "Ace MP3 To WAV Converter" to do that type of conversion (not
CDEX). My resultant .wav files were the same size as the .mp3 files.

That software worked better as it took the 14 meg to 82 meg but it still way
to big. I think if you go back and compare your mp3 you recorded to the wav
it is probably much bigger. Thanks for trying to help me. I still need
someone to let me know if I can point the linked mp3 file to the root
directory or specific web directory
 
I figured out from another post how to solve my problem. All you have to do
is package the file for CD and then just copy the ppt file and the mp3 file
to the web.
 
I don't know exactly what you did with Ace MP3 To WAV Converter but I have 2
folders. One contains the original mp3 files. The other holds the wave
files that were converted. If I open those folders side by side the
corresponding wave file is exactly the same size as the original mp3.
 
Well, I could try it again. I did'nt see any option for changing how much it
compresses. The difference may be is that you converted a mp3 that was saved
at it highest setting because for the web I just save them as radio quality.
This somewhere in the middle between best and worse quality. Besides all this
I figured out how to fix my problem. Here is an example of what I achieved

Hmmm. It has no audio for me. It may work for you if the audio files are
on your computer and the ppt program points to them. That's why it has to
be imbedded as a wave for recipients to also hear it.
 
I am not for sure why you don't hear any sound. I tried on 3 different
computers and it worked on all 3. I wonder if you have some setting on you
computer that is keeping the sound from playing?
