Newbies to this group mightn't be aware that this newsgroup is searchable on Google Groups. All
you need to do is follow the link below & you will be taken directly to the advanced search page.
Just type in what you want (eg. cd burner) & it will give you a list of posts with those words in
the subject or body, the most recent ones first.

Interesting - how did you manage to get a URL with "alt.comp.freeware"
already filled in the box on the Advanced Groups Search page? That could be
very useful to me.

Is this something you can do with forms pages generally, or is this just
something you could do on the Google page?

Often enough... experiment around a bit

This is how I do it.

Go to the Google page for alt.comp.freeware (or whatever group you
want)

Click on:-

Search only in alt.comp.freeware

Click on:-

Advanced Group Search

Book mark the page that comes up - it will have alt.comp.freeware in
the "Return only messages from the newsgroup" box next time you go to
that link.

Perform a search with whatever fields you want filled in, then click
the "advanced search" link at the top of the results page.

Google keeps all the info about the search in the URL, and this method
will work with any site that does that. If a site keeps track of your
searching by using cookies or other means, it's not so easy.
