I don't know what happened to my Notepad on my computer,
I have Windows XP pro...I want to fix this without
uninstalling anything. When I try to use it, it tells
me..."The C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\smss.exe application cannot
be run in Win32 mode" now I have no idea what this
means...and I have no idea how this happened. Everything
else works. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advanced.

Your problem seems to be the wrong program being executed. I don't know how such a thing could happen, but a suggestion you might want to try

start->run type: notepa

That should open the notepad program. smss.exe gave me the same error when I tried opening it

If your notepad shortcut in your start menu is incorrect you can correct it by
1. start->search->for files or folders (search all files)type notepad.ex
2. right mouse click on notepad and drag it to the destination you want
3. after letting go of the right mouse a sub menu will popup--choose create shortcut here
4. run the new shortcut
