Bob

I have a Dell PowerEdge 500SC server running Windows 2000 Server. (Bios
Revision A03)

It currently has one IBM Deskstar 60 GB hard drive.

I just bought a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200 GB hard drive (Model 6L200PO).

Both drives are set to "cable select" with the original IBM drive being the
Master, and Maxtor being the Slave.

Upon boot-up, I got this error:

"Boot Record Signature AA55 Not Found
The system did not load because of a computer disk hardware configuration
problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk."

What can I do to resolve this?

Thank you.

Master at the end, slave in the middle and blue connetor on the MB?

Have you tried to reverse the drives on the flat cable?

Tried all different combinations and jumper settings on the master and slave
drives.

My Dell PowerEdge 500SC still reports "Boot Record Signature AA55 Not Found
The system did not load because of a computer disk hardware configuration
problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk." whenever I boot up.

Do I need some special Maxtor installation programs to install the Maxtor
DiamondMax 10 200 GB hard drive (Model 6L200PO)?

There's a change in address format for drives over 128 GB. You may need
a BIOS upgrade to support the larger format. There may also be problems
with mixing smaller and larger drives on the same cable or even on different
cables on the same controller.

I have a customer's machine here I just added a 250 GB drive to.
Initially, the drive was not recognized as the correct size. This was fixed
with a BIOS upgrade. After the upgrade, the full size was recognized but I
found that if I connected to the motherboard's RAID controller with any
smaller drives present (even on a different cable), the large drive became
read-only. Connecting the drive to the standard drive controller worked
without such a problem.

One machine I worked on for a customer was not upgradeable and the only
way to use bigger drive was to install the Disk Mangler driver.
