A problem when powering up a new ATX motherboard

I have an ATX computer case with just one front panel switch. It
operates as a reset stitch when the system is up (you hold it 5
seconds until the system resets). The power supply is new and it has
a master power switch.

My new ATX motherboard has two connectors RST and PW_BN, but I have
only one switch. If I connect the front panel switch to RST, the fans
and the drives power up, but the motherboard itself, it seems, doesn't
power up (no beep and the monitor screen is black).

How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks!!!

The only wire that must be hooked up is PW. That is the case with all
my boxes with ASUS, Biostar, and Chaintech.

PW_BN stands for power button, which is the one button you have and thus the
one wire you should connect. RST stands for reset button which some, but not
all cases, have.

Connect the two wires from the front panel button to the PW_BN connector
(orientation doesn't matter). After you've done that, leave the power
supply's rear "master switch" in the "ON" position and use the front
panel button to turn the computer On/Off from then on (unless you're
working inside the computer case).

NOTE: Usually, modern OS's will automatically turn the computer off when
you shut down but, to manually turn it off, you must hold the
front panel button in for a few seconds.

The RST connectors will be empty, though if you're handy, you can add
one by connecting a small momentary switch (RadioShack) to them.

Connect the case switch to the PW_BN header. You don't HAVE to have a
reset button, but you DO need a power switch.

Alternatively, replace the computer case with one that has both reset and
power switches.
