Minding my own business and typing an email, I was a bit surprised when KIS popped up to inform me that Microsoft was, apparently, trying to download a Trojan into my PC. Bloomin' cheek.
Actually, since I wrote that, it has happened again! This time though, when KIS popped up, I was in time to see that it mentioned "Media Centre" ... so now I am thinking that perhaps, it could be a false positive(?) In other words, I wonder whether KIS is mistaking an ordinary update of some kind, for a nasty?
Er, isn't "HTML Dosser.c" the whole thing? Sorry Mucks, I really thought I was showing it all, 'cause KIS isn't showing me more than that. Is there another part of the prog which would show me more, that I am missing? Sorry to sound thick, but I do get a bit lost amongst KIS' many layers
naw, my fault also, I was expecting more after the C ...
I suspect, as I can't find any 'real' report on it especially from Kaspersky, it is a false positive. Double check with Kaspersky by sending in the "suspected" file or visit their site.
I worry about Trojans as they are typically installed secretly and deliver their malicious payload without your knowledge.
If you is still concerned, use one of the other on-line scanners to triple-check.
Okay Mucks, thanks very much for the advice. It's funny really, because I rarely get any activity of this kind, but today - like buses - they all seem to be coming at once
Just thought I would update this. I contacted KIS after finding that someone else (on their forum) was receiving similar warnings. They'd been advised to report the possible false positive, so I did too. They have just mailed back to say:
Hello,
Sorry, it was a false detection. It will be fixed in the next update.
Thank you for your help.
