I removed this thing to install the latest Firefox and it has made an
absolute mess of my file associations. Be warned. . .

I remember reading on the MyIE forums, that you MUST set your default
browser to something other than MyIE2 before uninstalling it, or else bad
things, like your're experiencing, happen.

I would try SetBrowser if you can't restore order:

http://www.pc-tools.net/win32/freeware/setbrowser/

A very simple program that lets you set the default web browser in Windows.
Select the browser you want, and the program will modify the required
registry settings. Can now also automatically locate the browser. A valuable
tool for anybody who uses more than one web browser on their system (e.g. if
you switch between Netscape Navigator/Communicator, Microsoft Internet
Explorer, Opera and others).

You did not have to uninstall MyIE.

All you have to do is install FireFox and run it. When prompted, allow
FireFox to become the default browser.

Maybe, he just wanted to ;)

He will just end up re-installing it. Been there, done that. No time to play
with social experiments. Life's too short. ;)

All seriousness aside, his associations could have been fixed in 10 seconds.
He was either bitching just because he wanted to, or is trolling for a holy
war.

Maybe not. After using Mozilla since 0.7 I've not touched any of my other
web browsers (like MyIE or Slimbrowser, etc.) and esp won't since CERT
recommended people start using other browsers (except for Microsofts IE).

Jolly good. When I reset my default browser form myie2 to Opera I had
a lot more work than I expected. Glad it's not just me.

I don't know what MY IE is, but if you are talking about Internet
Explorer...

I keep mine around even though I never use it. I have found, however, that
on occasion that I need it to open a web page that simply will NOT open on
any other browser. I use it maybe 2-3 times a month.

It really doesn't take up that much room. Unless you are determined to
remove it on principle alone.

That's what I did, but it didn't work. MyIE still kept popping up when I
clicked on any URL shortcuts such as Favorites. No problem, I thought. I'll
just uninstall it. What a mess that turned into. . .

Anyway, problem solved. I removed Firefox, used Control | Settings |
Add-Remove program to allow IE6 to gracefully repair itself and all file
associations. Then re-installed Firefox, set it up as default browser and
all seems to be working fine now.

See my reply above re why I had to remove MyIE. (It's an IE-based alternate
browser). I wouldn't recommend that anyone remove IE since it's so tightly
bound with Windows. I use Firefox's "Open this page in IE" extension for
those pages that sometimes need it.

If I had a few hours uninterrupted to configure it and get used to it, I may
possibly make the jump too. When I hit my web pages every morning, I'm in a
BIG hurry. I've fiddled with Mozilla-based stuff, and simply run out of time
and quit. MyIE2 just does it without my even thinking about it.

After sitting in front of a monitor all day, I'm too tired to fiddle with it
at night. Some day I'll spend 3-4 hours setting up Moz like MyIE2 and make a
fair comparison. There must be something good about it, because some users
want to kill you if you don't smother it with kisses and praise. Is it Moz
love, or IE hate? Give me time, and I'll find the truth. ;)

Is it broke? I don't need anything like that in IE. :D

Yes it has. They never iron out all the stuff on this.
Which is why I use CrazyBrowser.

Hey, I used to use CrazyBrowser, but then switch to green
browser. It is great, too and under constant update :).

Avant has served me very well. I haven't yet tried CrazyBrowser or
MyIE.

Some reasons I prefer MyIE to Avant Browser:

MyIE2's popup blocker never misses a single popup, but Avant's lets many get
through.

MyIE has many more mouse gestures (which are customizable), compared to
Avant.

Super drag and drag (one of my fav features in MyIE) is not available in
Avant.

I run them side by side. I think MyIE2 is faster when doing a zillion
tabs, which is how i usually work.
