Why isn`t the alt.comp.freeware.discussion group used for chatting?
Not meant to be a smart... but that is my favorite gripe in the
newsgroups and has been for several years.
On the other hand, this isn`t a binary group so what else would you use
this group for if not chatting.
I would use alt.binaries.freeware to post freeware, but why not get it
from the author`s website, or other archival url.
Anyone have a logical answer??
Thanks

maybe if you tried reading some of the posts here you would see that most of
them contain links to freware.
If you want a logical answer....ask a logical question first.

That was a feculent answer to a reasonable question.

Some jerk wrote an ill-tempered response to your inquiry. Don't let tha
get you down or be embarrassed. The vast majority of people online here
seem to be very nice, and generous with their time and knowledge.

Hi Bobby,

alt.comp.freeware
It is OK to use this group for chat as long as the chat is centered around
the topic of freeware. Always nice to hear what people are thinking and
what other things that they are involved with, just keep it kind of
on-topic. Chatting and sharing is what it is all about! :)

alt.comp.freeware.binaries
This is a place to post files that do not have web-pages for downloads, so
that others can have access to them too. :)

This freeware group really is a good place to hang, share and learn. Sure,
there are always a few problem posters, but by and large the people here
have been a very nice bunch. :)

So far no one has responded to your original question. I don't know
why alt.comp.freeware.discussion isn't more active. It has the
potential to be an excellent forum. If there is a freeware issue
you'd like to discuss, start a thread there and see what happens.

One reason it isn't more active is because a lot of servers don't carry it.

The only kind of "chat" I've seen here is flame wars

Why do people post messages with incomplete subject headers?
Why do they expect people to open the message, before those people can see
if the topic is any of their interest?
I find it plain annoying and a waste of my time, soI always ignore such
posts.
Except for this one, because I was fed up with it.
Excuse me for this rant.

See the OP (above Onno's post, in this thread).

To Onno: If you change a subject line, leave some indication that it
isn't an OP. Like Alastair, I missed the fact that yours was, in fact,
a reply.

i.e.

Subject: {new subject} (was: {old subject})

I agree with you, 100%
