Well i was thinking paydays coming up in a week or so and i was woundering what would be a very good heatsink and fan combo for my 939 socket amd processor. Also will this be hard and will i need the thermal paste? i was thinking of rajes chamelon fan. I wanna go for the best but not to outrageous in price. if you could american sites and prices thank you all and i know you can help me .
of course your going to need thermal paste , you dont want to use the thermal tape most heatsinks come pre-greased with that goop. (its ok if you dont have thermal paste). Get Artic Silver 5 or Artic Alumina.
As for a Heat Sink... im not too sure look for Big typhoon by thermaltake.
im sure there are better but that should suit you
Thermalright are excellent coolers, but check that the XP120 will fit your motherboard - it's too big for some as the heatsink spreads out quite a way.
Gigabyte rocket 3d pro is good and so is the Akasa Evo33 - I have tried both and they do an excellent job on 64bit chips.
The rocket pro has a blue led in the fan, and the Akasa has the option of fitting two 80mm fans on its sides - one blowing in, the other sucking out.
There's loadsof others out there, but I checked lots of reviews before deciding on these two.
Thermaltake make good coolers, but the fan on that thing looks like it could be quite loud. I've started looking for 120mm coolers for higher air flow and lower noise. I'm sure it will perform well though.
A thing to be caeful of is taking too much notice of the temps that people report they get with their latest cooler - if they say they are getting things below 20C witha 939 cpu, then it's probably a BIOS error. They're more likely to be getting closer to mid-high 30s. I have seen my chip at temps of 18C and lower, but once BIOS is updated, that has more often than not almost doubled.
Check google for a few reviews before buying and see if you can find comparisons with other in well benchmarked tests.
