A new benchmark .. Gothic 3 demo

No exaggeration here. If you want to know if your
new sooper-dooper home brew game box is really
all it should be, download the demo and set it to
max video specs in G3. I tested 4 different game
boxes, and the only one that could run the game
was an AMD 3800, GF7900GTO video, 2 gigs ram.
Tested a Dell 9150, 1 gig ram, 7900GS video, and
FPS dropped to about 2 a sec. It could not run the
game. Another box with an ATI 9800, just blue
screened at the start. A Dell 9100, 1 gig ram,
6800GS video, could run the game, but with long
pauses about 5 seconds apart. Be curious to know
how this game runs on a console. Another curiousity
is, the game doesn't look nearly as good as Far Cry,
and yet it is far more hardware intensive. Be interesting
to see what Crytek could do with an RPG game like
this.

all machines that you put together?

System Requirements
Minimum
2GHZ
512MB RAM
128MB Graphics card

Recommended
3GHZ
1024MB RAM
GeForce 6800
 
I don't know about a 'benchmark' or not but they mean what they say about
the requirements.
3 hrs to get the executable, I like the cut scenes, but thats as far as I
can get on a 128 vid card
 
Set Details to Custom, and drop all settings
to Medium, AI to just Aniso, and Shader to 2.0.
Also, cut the screen res to 1024x768 ( 60 hz ).
It should run, but look like crap. I'm following the
posts in several game groups, and G3 is not the
only POS that is doing this for Christmas. Nearly
all the new demos are showing this. MARK demo
is probably even worse because it is using HDR.
Holy cat! G3 even has a list of nVidia cards that
it will not run well on because ( they say ) the
chipset is incompatible with directx. Get this:

nVidia 6800, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900 have
directx incompatible accelerator drivers ..
according to G3. I am not lying one bit. I have
their stinking manual right here. And G3
came out on Nov 20 .. first patch is already
out for the Euroids. Another post says there
are typos in the .ini files. There's going to be
a world of mad kids on Christmas morning.
I'm already ticked, but I'm going to make this
thing run if it hairlips everybody in Denmark.

UG not playable on my dinosaur. First time I couldn't get a game to at
least run on this rig. Thats a cue to start thinking about another build.
After all, this thing has been running hard for 4 years now, and I'm getting
envious of the folks that I have been building for. It really doesn't
'look' like that exciting of a game, but I hold that critique till after I
actually get to play it.

That old Nvid vs ATI thing years ago was spawned by driver issues....and I
see it still perpetrated by shotty drivers. Incompatabilities with DX, not
really smart to release that crap, who the hell does their QC!?... I also
don't think its a great Idea to advertise a particular brand video card on
the game itself,(nvid must pay plenty for that) lends to a worry that it
won't play (or play well) on your diamond or ATI card. I don't know many
that will ditch thier 250 $ card for another to just play 1 game.

good luck with that, I don't have the time(or curently a 1000$ rig to even
attempt it) ;^(~
