I'm running a home network atm; the server is able to
access the internet (assuming you are reading this
sentence). However, as of this morning, none of the
clients had internet access. The server displayed the
error message: "A network cable is unplugged." I checked
all the cables, and they seemed to be plugged in just
fine. A reboot didn't fix the problem either. So what are
the most likely possiblities for the cause of this
problem?

You could be getting the error for a number of reason,
its not to be taken literally, meaning that just because
it says a cable is unplugged, doesnt always mean that
there is no cable plugged into the jack. It just mean the
computer cannot detect anything at the other end.
You may possibly be using the wrong cable, for a direct
PC to PC connection (without a hub), you need a cable
called a CROSSOVER. I had the same problem untill i
changed my cable for a crossover cable, thne it all went
fine.

Hope it helps

Also, swap a few cables around to see if one is damaged.

You get that message whenever windows senses there's no network present eg
switch/hub/router/modem reset or failure.
If you're on broadband and your ICS server showed this message there may
have been some problem with the modem.

You say that the server is okay, but the clients
(plural) don't have internet access. This suggests that
you are connecting them to the server via a hub or router.
If the error message is displayed on the server though,
it sounds like:
`
1.you are using a crossover cable from server to hub
instead of inline
2. the inline cable is faulty/damaged
3 there is a problem with the hub (faulty hub or port
within it)-are all the LED's on for each cable that's
plugged in?
4. how is your server connected to the internet - dial up
modem/cable modem etc. I'm assuming that the hub is
connected to a NIC on the server which is completely
separate from the servers internet connection, in which
case, could there be a fault with the NIC (the card
itself or the installation)
