A minute or so after a fresh boot my video goes black for a second or so. Why?

Greetings all,

I have begun to notice this: After I boot my Windows 2000 Pro box starts up and runs just find. But then, in a time span of about one minute the video blacks-out for a second or so. Why?
It never really causes any harm, and I don't necessarily think it is indicative of anything going wrong - on the contrary, I think it is a normal thing for it to be doing. But I don't remember that it always did this. (I may have just not noticed before.) So, I'm wondering if any others out there have noticed this peculiarity, and more to the point, if anyone can say for sure why it behaves this way?

Thanks all,
- Stan Shankman

I know we do "black out" for a second or two when we hand over to the
security manager and true GUI mode. Maybe thats what youre seeing?

Joseph,

Hey, thanks for the reply.

But I'm not so sure I follow what you said: "hand over to the security manager and true GUI mode"?

By the time my machine "blackout", I already have begun using the GUI. (Which is what makes it so disconcerting.) But still, I bet we're talking about the same thing, and just hearing that some mechanism exists for to legitimize this event is reassuring.

Do you know of any links that discuss this "blackout"?

Thanks,
