A mess on my Hands

I have used the windos movie maker in the past 4 months without much
problems. One week ago while working on a Movie project the program began to
do some odd irritating things. It is sluggish,Freezes up. While working on
the story board and trying to switch back to the music or credit area it
stops and sometimes the entire screen will white out and freeze the computer.
It seems that every step takes long time. When the video, video sound and
music are playing the video may stop but the music keeps going or visa
versa.Other time the vido continues but all sound stops briefly and picks up
again. The only portion that seems to work without me going crazy are the
title/ credits. I have checked for bugs,Defragmented my disc, Re set my
computer . Memory or hard drive is not an issue. All other computer programs
are running fine. It is the MOvie Maker that is not.
I have totally lost collections that I had. The only new piece of hardware
recently added was a infrared mouse. Has anyone out there had any similar
problems?? I am looking for a correcting path to travel on. Can someone help
me out??

Hi Ram;
How many videos do you have in collections?
Have you got a lot of movies (or are you developing one long movie)?

The more transitions, effects, splits etc you apply the system rus
slower and slower as it has to apply more actions when working a movie.
Eventually becomming unworkable.

Hope this helps

Ram,

Just something to consider in case either Moviemaker is freezing up or if Windows itself locks up:
See what Event Viewer has in it's log. Select Start button/ select Run , then type in

eventvwr.msc<enter>
-- or Go to Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools >Event Viewer.

Review the sections and look for Errors or Warnings that match the time the event occurred. Double click---the information "may" give a clue.

Also, your "freeze" may just be Windows encountering a serious error & trying to restart. If true, you need to actually "see" the error.
Be sure to write it down when it occurs.
Right Click the My Computer icon on desktop. Select Properties.
Next, select Advanced. Look for a block that says Startup and recovery. Press the settings button.
In System failure section, turn off (un-check) Automatically restart. Apply change.

I have only one movie that is 37 minutes long. I have 2 items in my
collection which were used to make the 37 minute movie. The last project done
was a little longer and actually had more video transitions and effects which
did well.

Thank you. That sounds logical to me. I do not think that is related to the
size of the movie. It would seem to me that the program is running into
something which it does not know what to do so it gives up and freezes. I
will try your suggestion and let you know what happens.
