A little networking puzzle...

Two computers, both running Win2k.

PC 1, (\\Dilbert)
ipconfig:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.199
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

-Start \ Run "\\DILBERT" shows Dilbert and all its shares.
-My Network Places \ Computers Near Me shows the same.
-Opening a shared folder shows shared files.

PC 2, (\\Wally)
ipconfig:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.102
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

-Start \ Run "\\WALLY" shows Wally and all its shares.
-My Network Places \ Computers Near Me shows NOTHING.
-Opening a shared folder (under Start \ Run) returns "\\WALLY\FILE is not
accessible. The network path was not found." (Adding a new share shows up
but double-clicking it returns the same message.)

-There are NO firewalls running.
-Both machines connect to the net okay via a shared router (192.168.1.1).

-Possible clue:PC2 had a virus recently but both machines have now been
cleaned and checked.

Any suggestions?

Make sure the following Services are still running:
1. Computer Browser
2. Server Service
3. TCP/IP Netbios Help Service
4. Workstation Service

Some people turn some of those off in the name of "security",...I do not. I
believe that if my over all security isn't good enough to leave those safely
running then that itself is my real problem.

This may not be the real solution,...but it is a place to start.

Thanks, but all four services are up and running (all started
automatically).
