Where I use my PC we have some 15 client-server connections, on of which I was using. For more than 4 months I could not help notice that everyone's computer was responding a lot faster than my slow one, especially when it came to opening / saving files, and starting applications. We all have identical computers and it drove everyone crazy trying to work out why this should be so.
Suffering quitely for a very long time, when the person next to me changed classes, I half heartedly decided to change my net connector and plug in his one (although I would be logging on to my own user-address again). To my surprise, the performance of my machine immediately caught up with the rest. It now transpires that there must have been something wrong with the lead actually connecting my computer to the wall-plug! Almost 5 months of suffering for nothing!
So remember, where computers are concerned, sometimes the simplest of things which can be the cause of your problems are worth checking first...
