An innovative laptop is currently in the advanced stages of development by MIT Media Labs. The unit has been designed to be tough, durable, cheap and to consume little energy: features that will make it a great bit of kit in the developing world.
The laptop features a 500MHz processor, flash memory rather than a hard-drive (which are more prone to damage), a thick rubber 'armour' to protect it and a handle to top-up the power if needed. It will also be able to connect to the internet using wireless technology.
A prototype should be ready in time for the World Summit on the Information Society in November.
