A;\ is not accessible

After adding some software and Windows updates, I am not
able to access the A:\ Drive. If I boot Windows XP in
safe mode floppy works fine. Under normal boot I get
message A:\ is not accessible.....Incorrect Function.
Where do I look to resolve conflict?
