I like the rest of you had the cpu issue going to 100% and computer moving
slower than a slow motion movie. I called this number (1800-936-4900 or
425-637-9308) which is Microsoft support for Security issues (I waited about
2hrs for someone to answer but it was well worth the wait). I spoke to a
very nice MS Technician who walked me through this fix.

We downloaded the patch instead of using windows update and installed it in
SAFE MODE
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7E-F63A-414C-B3EB-D2342FBB6C00&displaylang=en

This fixed the driver issue since no drivers really load in Safe Mode.
He also had me download the hotfix. this hotfix can only be obtained from
Microsoft since it is password protected and you can only get it if you make
the call to the number above.
I really did not need the fix since executing it in Safe Mode did the trick
and if you try it this way and you get success then you really do not need
to call MS.
We did it just in case I found a problem and also did it in SAFE Mode and
also this fix will be incorporated in sp5.

It worked! because I know longer have the issue and computer is running just
dandy now.
I also do not see the problem that some are having with the ie issue of not
holding the history.
I will tell you that the MS technician was very nice and knew exactly what
he was doing.
I will also tell you I told him why did not MS test this patch better for
the Win2000 OS because so many ppl have this same problem.
He actually agreed with me that it should have been tested better because he
told me the call center has been receiving hundreds of calls per hour (that
is prolly why i waited 2hrs to be heard)

Maybe this will teach Microsoft something the next time they issue a patch
like this one.

This is not a patch-problem.

It's a problem with McAfee VirusScan (maybe only older versions = 6.02
and 4.5.1). You have to deactivate the 'Internetfilter'. Thats it.
If it doesn't work, delete the temp-folders 'Temporary Internet Files' +
'History' + Userdata' **completly** ... reboot the machine and try
again.
