A:/ floppy does not work w/ XP PRo

[Just a girl]

installed XP PRO over win98 and now the floppy doesn't
work. It is eneabled in SETUP and lights upon boot but
can't access from XP, keeps telling me to insert disc
into A:/ drive?

Also how do I retrieve all my programs in the start menu
from 98 to XP, I see they wr still on the C drive but
they do not appear in the programs menu nor do they
appear in the XP programs to be installed?
