Windows XP Home:
Before I reformatted this pc, I used to be able to go into My
Computer......then click Local Disk C....Documents and
settings.....Linda.....Local something, and then a couple more clicks, and
find all the dbx files that I wanted to delete. Now, I can't. They also will
not show up when I do a search for them. Also reinstalled my Nortons AV
2003, and Internet Security, but they will not update.
Oh, and how do I get the favorites file to the start up? Thank you for any
help you can give me.

It sounds like your old setup was showing hidden files and folders.
Possibly showing system files/folders as well. The new setup is still
hiding them.

Also, have you setup OE yet? The DBX folders appear after an account is
created.

Thanks Sharon.
Are you suggesting I reformat again?
Yes, OE is set up again, but the dbx files are not showing.

have you copied the backed-up dbx files to your new setup?

No, I don't have a clue how to do this.

Linda, the path to the DBX files is "C:\Documents and Settings\mrtee\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{83840CD4-6232-4C44-B63D-A80AC6B9123F}\Microsoft\Outlook Express". The path is the same for each user. HTH.

Yes, OE is set up again, but the dbx files are not showing.

No, not suggesting a reinstall at all.

To show hidden files and folders use Folder Options> View:
Mark "show hidden files and folders"
That should be enough to see the OE DBX files but you may also need to
remove check next to "Hide protected operating system files" as well.

Another way to locate the OE message store:
Open Outlook Express. Click on Tools> Options> Maintenance. Click the Store
Folder button to see exactly where those files are currently located at.

Great! That did it. Something so simple, yet overlooked. Thank you so much!
Thanks Sharon.
