A few simple questions about Cat 3.6

1. Why does this driver installation need to be connected to the
internet-who/what is it connecting to and for what purpose?

2. Did it ever occur to ATI that not all machines that might run ATI
cards have or want internet access? I tried and tried to install
without connecting to the net and failed. Finally had to temporally go
to the trouble of putting in a modem on a machine that does not need
one simply to install the damn drivers. Or did I miss something
obvious?

I normally install my drivers (and I have the Cat 3.6 suite installed)
offline. No problems. I doubt that it's ATi: you probably have your system
set up so it has check that the drivers are approved, or something like
that.

My main computer has no Internet connection set up at all and I had no
trouble installing the Catalyst 3.6 drivers. No messages ever popped up on
the screen asking to connect. Patrick is probably right.
