question 1. Is it really critical to update Bios if im not having problem? I dont have a Floppy drive, nor do i have any floppydisks :(
I do have A Asus mobo which has a program that updates Bios through the internet, do you recommend it?

Question 2. I seem to have lost the ability to watch DVDs on my computer. everytime i try too the program i use 'encounters a problem and needs to close' i have tried windows media player 10, Power Dvd and powercinema. this has plauged me since i rebuilding my computer last upgrade cycle.

I think thats it, if i can think of more i will post em... trust me :D

thanks!

Personally i would't update a BIOS unless i'm having issues. "if it ain't broke then don't fix it". As for the asus BIOS update app, always more risky to update BIOS via windows for the sole reason that if windows crashes, the chances are your BIOS will "die". Best bet is to find a boot CD version of the update or even better just stick a floppy drive in just for the update.

The DVD issue looks like it's being caused by a corrupt profile. to test this theory, create a second user account and logon with it and if you don't have any issues playing DVD's with the new account then it's definately a corrupt profile. if it is a profile issue then reboot the PC log on with the second account you just created (make sure it's an administrator account) and rename the first accounts profile to "username.old" or the like. when you log back on with the first account a new profile will be created. obviously you'll have to copy over doc's, shortcuts etc from the old profile.

Try uninstalling then re-installing your DVD drivers . Have you got the latest firmware for your DVD ??

the Dvd drive is a 'plug and play' as a result i dont think there are drivers for it. but will look into it

Funny, I had a very similar "problem" with my DVD drive ... I fixed it though.

I bought a new one. :thumb:

You may have the same problem, its nucking fackard. ;)

There are NO drivers per say for Optical drives, Windows treats them all the same.
