To whomever it may concern,
Sorry if this is the wrong address that I am sending this e-mail to...
I was wondering if you can help me a bit. I am having some trouble with
WindowsXP and my themes, as well as windows explorer, Search and adding
services, namely Alerter and Messenger.
I have tried almost every sort of help and solutions there are on the
internet, but I cannot get them back to normal, you see, all the situations
were running fine, until someone at my computer had delete some files and
folders(C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS). I have got my PC back and running after this
through running the repair installation... that was the second repair
option, and I had this done twice, yet I cannot get rid of these problems...
The Windows_Explorer_and_Taskbar has the theme problems, as I am
stuck in the windows classic state on the taskbar and my windows explorer
doesn't display correctly as it did with my theme. My current theme that I
have installed, is the "Forever Blue" theme.
The Search Window - the Search Companion Toolbar is black, even the
animation has disappeared.... Then when I click the
Look In tab, I only get the three options - My Computer, My Documents
and Desktop, note that the browse option has disappeared....
Then when I right-click in the Search Companion
Toolbar, that is the only option that I get, no options nor customise, where
I can choose the animation etc....
The services problem comes up when I try to add the services, but I keep
getting errors saying that the name of the service is invalid, when I know
it is not true.
I try to add services as in command prompt as these two services don't
appear in the services list under Administrators tools: "net start alerter"
and "net start messenger".
This is the exact error message:
C:\>net start alerter
The service name is invalid.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
C:\>net start messenger
The service name is invalid.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185.
I hope you could help with these problems that I am having... Any
suggestions are more then welcome. I am aware that it could be a registry
entry or the group policies that may have been deleted or corrupted during
the deletion of those files and folders mentioned above.
I am using WindowsXP Service Pack One, on a PIII 866Mhz, with 256Mb RAM...
Thanks in advance,
Red Devil
