A few basic questions about Outlook (2002)

I'm unclear on a few basic points about my Outlook 2002. It came with my
iPAQ 2210 Pocket Computer many years ago, long since replaced by an HTC
Touch Pro 2 running under Windows Mobile 6.1 and supplemented by
ActiveSync 4.5.0.

1. Must Outlook always be running for AS to work?

2. I assume it must always be running for Tasks and Appointment reminders
to be displayed (because occasionally, when deliberately starting it, I
get several out-of-date messages). Is there any way around that?

3. Assuming not, is the CPU and memory resource significant?

Any advice would be much appreciated please.

1. No Outlook does not have to be always running. Your phone connects directly to the mail server, so Outlook can be closed for you to receive email on your phone.

2. Same as question 1. Outlook is just a program to connect to the mail server, just like Activesync on your phone. So 1 does not have to run for the other to work. Any changes you make on your phone will change in Outlook once you next open Outlook.
