we have excel on xp. we try to put a work sheet on the
desktop so it would be convenient to get to (a time
sheet) but we can't seem to put it there. Is there a way
to put it on the desktop

Not for an individual workSHEET. You can put a shortcut to a workbook, just
like you can to any other file.
